Embroiderers urged to create Scottish version of Bayeux Tapestry

EMBROIDERERS from throughout Perth and Kinross are being invited to help produce a version of the famous Bayeux Tapestry, based on the adventures of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

The invitation comes from the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust, which wants to produce an 80-metre tapestry made up of 79 different scenes from the Prince’s 1745 campaign throughout Scotland.

More than half the panels have been claimed by local groups from across the country. But several featuring Perth – where Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed for several days on his way to Edinburgh – are still up for grabs.

When the panels are completed and sewn together in June, 2010, the massive tapestry will go on tour to France, then through Scotland – along the same route taken by the Prince – before being permanently put on show in Prestonpans.
