Perth Brownies celebrate centenary on radio

A GROUP of Perth Brownies will take to the airwaves tonight after local station Perth FM agreed to put their faith in the youngsters in order to mark the organisation’s centenary.

Karen Lamb, leader of the 20th Perth pack said the prospect of the girls taking over the station would intrigue both Robert Baden-Powell and his wife Olave – who initially started the Scouts movement and began the Guides once girls asked to be involved 100 years ago.

She said: “Girl Guiding UK have set many challenges for members to complete this year, the ‘Brownie Take Over’ is just one of them and is happening all over the country.”

Karen continued by saying the St Matthew’s-based group have been working hard at their weekly Tuesday sessions to come up with ideas that will entertain the listeners during their one-hour special, which can be heard from 7pm until 8pm tonight.

She said: “It will include information about our pack and what we have been up to, as well as music chosen by the girls and even live songs sung by us!

“We would really like to thank Mark Page, the managing director of the station, for allowing us to have this fun adventure, and presenter Alistair Smith for helping us write the scripts and produce the show.”

Perth FM’s Mark Page said, “I think this is a great idea and it will allow the girls to be part of the Fair City’s very own radio station

“Hopefully it shows our commitment to the local area and illustrates what a truly local radio station can offer its community.

“We’re all excited to hear what the Brownies have produced and we hope everyone will tune in to Perth FM on 106.6, or you can listen online at: www.perthfm.co.uk,” he said.
