CLAIMS by St Johnstone supporters that hooligans had rampaged through Perth were rubbished by traders yesterday.
Writing on an unofficial website, fans of the Perth club have pointed the finger at followers of SPL rivals Dundee United following an incident which has been described by one eye-witness yesterday as “a storm in a teacup”.
Officers were escorting a group of trouble-makers known to the police from Perth city centre to the town’s train station before Saturday’s fixture between the two clubs at McDiarmid Park.
The PA understands that following a verbal exchange with locals trouble almost flared in South Street but was quickly nipped in the bud.
“The incident only lasted for about 10 seconds but things grow arms and legs in Perth,” said a local publican yesterday.
A police spokesman confirmed no one involved had been charged.
