Perthshire residents raise nearly £42,000 for Macmillan

ALMOST 1370 Perth and Kinross residents took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on September 25.

Around 115 coffee mornings were held in the area as part of the huge fundraising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

And charity bosses are hopeful they have hit their fundraising target of £42,000.

Macmillan’s head of fundraising in Perth and Kinross, Neil Kennedy, said “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was a fantastic success. I would like to thank everyone who took part.

“It was a great event, and once again the people of Scotland got behind us wholeheartedly, helping us raise thousands of pounds to fund our services.

“We rely almost entirely on donations, and without all the hard work from our coffee morning hosts and goodwill from those who go along to their events, we wouldn’t be able to keep offering the fantastic services that so many people rely on.”

This is the 19th year of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and Macmillan estimates that two million people around the UK took part, raising around £8m. This include around £880,000 from coffee mornings across Scotland.

Quick-fingered Scots can still support Macmillan by buying a virtual coffee by texting BEANS to 70123.

The text will cost £3 (plus the standard network rate) and a minimum of £2.19 will go directly to Macmillan.

Neil added: “It’s still not too late to support Macmillan, so get texting and help us raise even more to help people affected by cancer.”
