LETHAM Majorettes recently celebrated their 25th anniversary at their annual Majorette of the Year Show. Formed in August 1984 by Peter Redpath the troupe is now coached by one of the founder members, Linda Melville.
To celebrate their anniversary the troupe performed a selection of past and present routines to family and friends, which was followed by their prize-giving.
Prizes were awarded as follows: Majorette of the Year – Gemma Traill.
Most Impoved Junior/Senior – Hayley Dargie. Most Improved Juvenile – Cerys Cairns.
10 year Dedicated Member Awards – Samantha Barty, Kirsten Cameron, Elisa Kerr, Lauren Bennett, Simone Hutcheson and Rachel Bell.
Perfect Attendance – Samantha Barty and Hayley Dargie. Excellent Attendance – Eve Barnett, Amy Kermath, Cerys Cairns, Tamarrah McDougall, Amber McDougall, Lindsay Myles, Jade Kermath, Gemma Traill and Danielle McMahon.
Other general awards were awarded for effort and attitude at practice.
The top category was awarded to: Kirsten Cameron, Elisa Kerr, Simone Hutcheson, Samantha Barty, Jade Karmath, Lauren Bennett, Gemma Traill, Danielle McMahon, Emily Adams, Lucy Bennett, Lindsay Myles, Shanagh Campbell, Hayley Dargie, Eve Barnett, Amy Kermath, Cerys Cairns and Tamarrah McDougall.
The second category was awarded to Kirsty Miller.
Erin Clark, Amy McFarlane and Amber McDougall were awarded small trophies while plaques and medals were awarded to the beginners: Sarah McNaughton, Caitlin Campbell, Megan Cork, Chloe Cork, Shari Moffat, Lucy Moyes and Alba Vilaplana
A few girls also travelled to a competition held at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh on Septemebr 27 and their results were as follows:
Primary: Six–seven years – Tamarrah McDougall (2nd basic, 4th fancy, 3rd solo), Amy McFarlane (4th basic, 5th fancy, 6th solo).
Novice: seven–eight years – Amy Kermath (3rd basic, 6th fancy). 11-12 years – Lindsay Myles (1st basic, 3rd fancy, 2nd solo).
Grade 1: 11-12 years – Hayley Dargie (5th basic, 5th fancy, 4th solo). 14+ – Jade Kermath (2nd basic, 3rd fancy, 3rd solo).
The team was also placed first in the Primary Pom Pom Team section.
The troupe train on a Saturday morning in the Letham Centre and new members are always welcome.
If anyone is interested in becoming a majorette a new beginner class will start on Saturday, October 31, although feel free to come along before then to get a taste for it.
