The stag will welcome visitors to Aberfeldy
A STRIKING metal sculpture designed by a local artist is brightening up the approach into Aberfeldy.
The eye-catching stag was joint funded by Aberfeldy and District Rotary Club who were approached by a voluntary group Move2Improve (M2I) to support the project.
M2I commissioned the metal sculpture from Heather Cumming of Keltneyburn to sit beside the southern approach to the town close to the entrance to the Upper Birks of Aberfeldy.
Heather produced a number of ideas and M2I chose a stag which incorporates in its body representations of some of the things Aberfeldy is famous for – such as whisky, fishing and walking as well as some lines from Robert Burns’ poem ‘The Birks o’ Aberfeldy’.
The Stag took some months to produce as did the necessary planning permission from Perth and Kinross Council but it finally arrived on site in the middle of September.
The photograph shows Rotary President Andrew Caldwell handing over a cheque for £1000 to William Leszke, Chairman of Move2Improve.
