Perth woman caught with £1000 worth of diazepam tablets

A PERTH woman caught with more than £1000 worth of diazepam tablets was warned yesterday she had reached the “custody threshold”.

But 28-year-old Carrie Calderwood (28), of Carnegie Court, was allowed her liberty yesterday while background reports are prepared.

She pled guilty at Perth Sheriff Court to a reduced charge of having the Class C drug diazepam in her possession in Watergate, Perth, on December 18 last year, with intent to supply it to others.

She was on bail at the time.

A not guilty plea to a second charge of being concerned in the supply of heroin at properties in George Street and Watergate was accepted by the prosecution.

Calderwood, who admitted previous convictions, was to have faced trial before a jury yesterday.

Depute fiscal Charmaine Cole said that police recovered 1,000 diazepam tablets with a potential illicit value of just over £1,000.

Sheriff Robert McCreadie called for social inquiry, community service and restriction of liberty order reports to be prepared.

He granted Calderwood her freedom but told her: “With your record – and the offence to which you have pled guilty – it’s quite clear you have now reached the custody threshold.”
