TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill yesterday morning after a smash involving a bus and a lorry in Perth’s Glasgow Road, writes Les Stewart.
The impact shattered the windows along the side of the No. 12 cityhopper service which commutes between Brand’s Brae in Gannochy and the Viewlands area of the city.
Fortunately the Stagecoach service was only carrying one passenger, in addition to the driver, and both were treated at the scene for shock but neither required hospital treatment.
The accident happened near the James Barclay furniture and carpet showroom, where the road crosses the main Perth-Inverness railway line.
It is understood that the bus was emerging from a bus stop just prior to the collision.
A police spokesman said that the female bus passenger, a 56-year-old woman, also received a minor cut.
“The ambulance attended but she declined medical attention and was taken home by a family member.”
Debris from the smash was quickly cleared from the roadway and disruption was kept to a minimum.
A spokeswoman for Stagecoach in Perth added: “At approximately 11am today, a vehicle on the Service 12 route was involved in a collision with a lorry on Glasgow Road in Perth.
“As a result of the incident, our driver and one passenger were treated for shock at the scene but neither required hospital treatment.
“We are assisting police with their inquiries and will also carry out our own investigation into the incident.”
