Marathon trip to the Big Apple raises money for Perth charity

ENERGETIC car sales manager Dean Morris raised £2450 for a Perth charity by completing the New York City Marathon.

Dean (44), from the Fair City’s Peter Vardy car dealership, gathered his impressive sponsorship haul in the final few days before the recent race.

Aware of the firm’s ongoing support of Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service, he was keen to see that his marathon efforts could produce added benefits for the great local cause.

Big-hearted Dean said that in his first four hours of fundraising he managed to accrue over £1,200 in sponsorship.

“The main reason for supporting PKAVS is the great work this charity undertakes in the community,” he told the PA yesterday.

“I really wanted to do the run for a local charity helping local people, and Peter Vardy has had a very strong association with Pkavs since the dealership started just over three years ago.

“I was keen to raise as much as I can and am delighted with the amount. I’d like to thank all my colleagues, friends and family who offered their support.”

Dean, who moved to Perth from Inverness three years ago, completed the race in four hours and 45 minutes.

“The marathon was an amazing experience,” he said.

“I had a good first 18 miles, although it got tough after that, but the crowds who came to watch were awesome and kept me going”.

PKAVS’ marketing and development manager Helen MacKinnon was delighted to accept the donation on behalf of the North Methven Street venture.
