LOCAL MP Gordon Banks has welcomed a proposed review of the operation of a new waste from energy plant near Glenfarg.
Gordon Banks was speaking in response to news from SITA UK that the company is considering the possibility of gasification at the Binn Farm site.
Mr Banks, the representative for Ochil and South Perthshire, said: “This is very welcome news and I look forward to more details emerging in the near future.
“This decision is recognition of not only community concerns about original proposals but acknowledging that technology is ever-evolving and that aims and objectives can be secured in more than one way.
“The reduction in waste product from gasification is much reduced over standard energy from waste burning and this is recognised by environmental campaigners such as Dr David Bellamy.
“He recently advocated the benefits of gasification plants when he said they ‘solve the problems of waste without polluting air and water or threatening the heritage of sustainable fisheries and tourism.’
“That SITA are considering this move for Binn Farm is a huge step forward and I will continue to make representations to organisations involved in the project and hope that this will, in the future, be an integral part in handling waste products in a safe and very productive manner.’’
