Multi-million pound homes plan for Stanley

AN award-winning housebuilder has unveiled plans for a £4 million development in Stanley.

Family-owned Mactaggart & Mickel has announced is planning to make its first inroads into Perthshire, with proposals for the acquisition and development of a 3.24-acre site in Mill Street, close to Stanley Mills.

The area is zoned for housing in the Perth Area Local Plan.

The Glasgow-based company, which has been building homes across Central Scotland since 1925, has submitted a planning application for 34 houses on the land, which is currently unoccupied.

The project, if approved, would bring a mix of much-needed housing to the village – and the Perth and Kinross Council area, where there is a projected shortfall over the next few years.

The company hope to get the green light next year.

Craig Ormond, land manager at Mactaggart & Mickel, said yesterday: “We are looking forward to working in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council and the local community as this important project develops and will consult regularly with community groups in respect of our proposals.

“The selection of new housing will include affordable homes and will provide homes for a range of buyers, including aspiring and established families, professionals and couples in a convenient and attractive location.

“Mactaggart & Mickel hopes to create a community within Stanley through a well-designed sense of place, while leaving its stamp of quality as it has with previous developments throughout Scotland.”

Mactaggart & Mickel has been hand-crafting homes for generations and is one of Scotland’s most successful independent housebuilders, employing more than 280 people.

The company won the highly coveted Best Family Home in the Herald Property Awards 2009 and a number of its staff won National House-Building Council (NHBC) awards this year for the quality of construction and consideration taken throughout the build process.

The house types planned for the Perthshire location include Lismore, Oronsay, Broom and the award-winning Arran.
