Braemore Estates lodge modified flats plan for Filling Station

PLANS to create new homes in the shadow of a jinxed Perth landmark were lodged by developers yesterday.

The Crieff-based firm Braemore Estates is now seeking a green light from planners after submitting proposals for ten flats on the site of a former snooker hall in the Fair City’s St John’s Place.

The imposing building stands directly opposite Perth’s seemingly doomed old city hall, which was itself earmarked for redevelopment by Perth and Kinross Council and a London-based firm until the massively controversial scheme was ditched in early September.

After their partners failed to start work on a project drawn up four years earlier, PKC finally bit the bullet and dropped plans to turn the mothballed hall into a speciality shopping precinct.

In a letter to the local authority, Braemore chief William Frame points out that plans to create eight flats opposite the city hall were granted councillors’ consent last year.

The developer’s newly-updated proposals for the converted snooker venue and its adjoining offices rest on a further two properties being included within an altered layout.

Plans show that all flats within the premises – which stands on two separate floors above an Oriental restaurant – would be developed with either one or two bedrooms.

Perth and Kinross Councillors are expected to consider Braemore’s application when they meet next month.
