Bankfoot Buses chief on fraud charge at Perth Sheriff Court

A BUS company boss made no plea when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court this week in relation to a fraud charge.

Stuart Newing-Davis is accused of scamming £58,000 from Scottish Government agency Transport Scotland by fiddling paperwork over a 10-month spell.

It is alleged that, between September 17, 2007, and July 20 last year, at the premises of Ptarmigan Transport Solutions Ltd. (PTS), Arran House, Perth, or elsewhere unknown in Scotland, Newing-Davis (40) pretended to staff with Transport Scotland, by means of 11 claim forms sent and submitted by him, that PTS was entitled to reimbursement of £79,000 in respect of free concessionary travel fare passengers carried by Bankfoot Buses, operated by PTS.

The charge further alleges that Newing-Davis knew full well the truth that Bankfoot Buses was only entitled to a sum of £21,000 and that, by fraud, he enticed Transport Scotland staff to pay £58,000 to PTS in respect of his claims.

Newing-Davis of Arran Road, Perth, must return to court on December 22.
