Tayside Police launch annual festive road safety campaign

POLICE in Perthshire launched a month-long clampdown on drink drivers earlier this week.

Tayside Police’s festive road safety campaign, which operates until January 4, will see “robust action” taken against irresponsible motorists.

The annual initiative also includes a newly-launched national policy where the courts can order the forfeiture of repeat drink-drive offenders’ vehicles.

Chief Inspector Sandy Bowman, head of road policing in Tayside, said: “Experience confirms that some of these drivers are repeat offenders and if, through this initiative, their behaviour leads to the forfeiture of their vehicle so much the better.”

Anyone with information concerning a drink or drug driver should call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.
