Glackin slams Pete Wishart on Westminster expenses vote

PERTH and North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart has come under attack for voting against the setting up of the parliamentary standards watchdog.

Labour candidate Jamie Gleckin called the move bizarre and said: “Pete Wishart really does have to explain why on earth he invoked an obscure procedural device in an attempt to block legislation that would have finally held all MPs to account.

“We need a robust standards system to get a grip of these MPs and the vast majority of sitting members of the House of Commons agreed with this.

“This makes Pete Wishart’s standing on this issue highly questionable.

“All candidates up and down the country will tell you that the electorate regard the behaviour of MPs and their expenses scandals as disgusting.

“It’s a common theme on the doorstep and, just when all the parties agree on a way out of the mess, Pete Wishart votes against it.”
