Perth lad is army’s 1000th recruit to Royal Regiment

A YOUNG Perth man has become the Army’s 1000th recruit in Scotland this year.

Eighteen-year-old David McInally (right) is set to start his training course at Catterick, North Yorkshire, with a view to joining 3 Scots, which is a battalion within the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Brigadier David Allfrey, Commander 51 (Scottish) Brigade, hailed the continuing rise in new recruit numbers.

“It is phenomenal that at a time when the Army is so busy on operations, particularly in Afghanistan, we have attracted over 1000 talented men and women into the profession since April this year,” he said.

“I am hugely proud of them and our team of recruiters.”

Jobcentre Plus senior manager Ann Scott described the 1000-soldier landmark as a phenomenal achievement.

She said: “The high level of interest shown by Scottish men and women looking for a fulfilling career illustrates just how popular the Army is.

“With the varied and outdoor lifestyle, the excellent starting salary, the career progression prospects and the many career choices available, it’s no surprise that the Army has become a career of choice for so many.”
