Recycling to continue at Kenmore Quarry

HIGHLAND Perthshire councillor Ken Lyall has welcomed the decision to allow recycling and other activities to continue at Kenmore Quarry.

The Aberfeldy-based local authority member told a meeting of Perth and Kinross Council’s development control committee their decision to award the site planning permission to continue its work had the potential to safeguard up to 60 jobs.

At present the quarry, which lies within the grounds of Taymouth Castle and is operated by local firm WB Grieve Groundworks, acts as a temporary storage site for a variety of construction-related material.

There is also scope for recycling and the extraction of sand, gravel and landfill. Councillor Lyall said: “There’s a lot of material coming onto the site from the work going on at the Breadalbane Community Campus at the moment.

“It’s very important for the area as, allowing the work to continue here, will help retain as many as 60 local jobs.”

Committee convener, Councillor Willie Wilson, added: “Kenmore Quarry helps in a number of ways, as it not only prevents a lot of long-distance lorry movement from the area, but also helps the construction industry here in Perth,” he said.

Since the current consent was granted in 2002, WB Grieve Groundworks have expanded and now employ 60 staff – with three or four of these based at the quarry full-time, depending on their workload.
