Silent Auction raises £22,600 for three Perth charities
THE Perth and Kinross public dug deep into their wallets for a record-breaking Silent Auction.
The country might be shivering in the grip of recession but the charity fundraiser, teed up by the PA in tandem with Perth Rotary Club, was a heart-warming success.
It reached a climax last weekend and yesterday delighted Rotarians calculated it had generated an amazing £22,600 – exceeding last year’s total by £3500.
Bill Duncan, Rotary club president, and Alison Lowson, editor of the PA, expressed their delight.
Alison said: “It is an incredible figure and we are both amazed and delighted at the public response and the generosity of everyone who contributed the various lots for auction.”
The money raised will be split between The Black Watch Heritage Appeal, the Cornhill Macmillan Centre and Rotary charities.
Fellow organiser David Lindsay said he wanted to thank everyone who made the annual fundraiser a resounding success.
He said: “I want to say a big thank-you to all the businesses who donated highly sought-after lots and to the members of the public who’ve dug deep into their pockets to bid for them.
“The Silent Auction had more lots this year than ever before.
“We’re now in the process of getting them to their buyers. Even though they’ve all been notified by email, it’s still proving to be a very busy time – which is testament to the popularity of the auction itself.
“Because of how popular it’s proved again this year, there’s definitely a good chance it will be taking place again in 2010,” he said.
