Perth teen admits “litany of charges,” including dangerous driving

A PERTH teenager who admitted driving dangerously and struggling with police was warned he faces a “short, sharp shock”.

Sheriff Robert McCreadie told Shaun Duane Fairlie (17), of Glasgow Road, that he was guilty of a “pretty horrendous combination” of offences.

He added: “I am concerned about your conduct. In the public interest, I am not going to deal with you until I hear what the background to your circumstances is.”

The Sheriff called for social inquiry, community service and restriction of liberty order reports and deferred sentence until February 17.

He banned Fairlie from driving meantime and placed him on bail because of the number of charges he was on.

He pled guilty to driving in Hermitage Drive, Lady Nairne Drive and Oakbank Road, all Perth, on November 28 last year while a provisional licence holder and without a qualified driver or displaying ‘L’ plates.

He also had no insurance for the car and failed to stop after an accident and give his name and address.

In addition, he drove dangerously, erratically and at excessive speed, had no lights and collided with a parked car.

A further charge revealed that he failed, without reasonable excuse, to provide two breath specimens.

The court also heard that he committed a breach of the peace by shouting and swearing, repeatedly banged his head on the side of a police van and struggled with officers.

Not guilty pleas to driving off from Oakbank Road, Perth, without the car owner’s consent and failing to report an accident to the police within 24 hours were accepted by the prosecution.

Sheriff McCreadie told Fairlie: “This is quite a litany of offences.”

The Sheriff noted that he had a previous conviction only a few months previously for an analogous breach of the peace which involved an altercation with the police.

“I suspect there is a problem brewing here with this 17-year-old and it will have to be nipped in the bud as soon as possible,” said Sheriff McCreadie.

Full details of the incidents will be given when Fairlie is sentenced next month.
