Rent rise agreed by Perth and Kinross Council

COUNCIL house tenants in Perthshire and Kinross-shire are set to pay slightly higher rents.

Perth and Kinross Council’s housing and health committee gave the green light on Wednesday to an average £1.07 weekly rise for all local authority tenants.

The 2.1 per cent increase has been agreed following discussions between the council and members of the public involved in the region’s Tenants and Residents’ Federation.

Between 2004 and 2009 the yearly review was three per cent, on top of inflation.

Committee convener Peter Barrett underlined claims by PKC executive director David Burke that any surplus cash as a result of the move would be re-invested to improve the region’s housing stock.
