Stole rings worth £1,000

A PERTH woman repaid a Good Samaritan by stealing a set of keys from her and then stealing three rings, valued at over £1000, from her seriously-ill mother.

Perth Sheriff Court was told this week that the jewellery was of “significant sentimental value.”

Gillian Greig (21), of Cath House, York Place, will be sentenced on March 3 after background reports have been prepared.

She admitted stealing a set of house keys from a flat in Stanley Crescent on July 18, 2008, and then breaking into a nearby flat and stealing the rings.

Depute Fiscal Lucy Keane told the court the complainer had taken Greig into her home after she had experienced “difficult circumstances”.

Solicitor David Holmes said his client regretted her actions and her memory had been “clouded by the effects of drugs”.

Greig also admitted kicking out at female police officer at Perth Police HQ on November 6 last year and assaulting a man by spitting on him.

Sheriff Thomas McCartney described the theft as “particularly nasty” but decided to call for reports before passing sentence.
