Perth woman gets hammer fine

PERTH woman Catherine MacKinnon was heavily fined this week for wielding a pair of hammers in the street.

The Sheriff Court was told this week that witnesses alerted police after the 45-year-old, whose address was given as Grampian Court, off Crieff Road, started shouting and swearing in Letham’s Tulloch Road on November 18.

MacKinnon was fined £800 for conducting herself in a disorderly manner, shouting, swearing, brandishing the hammers in a threatening manner and committing a breach of the peace.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis criticised solicitor Linda Clark for saying her client has “struggled” to control her alcohol intake in the past – and opted to sanction a “significant” financial penalty.

Sheriff Foulis continued: “The accused is simply saying: ‘I like consuming alcohol, and consuming alcohol to excess, and I’m not going to stop for anyone’.’’
