Resurfacing work set to start on the A9 between Aberuthven and Auchterarder

RESURFACING work worth £1.6 million is set to start on the A9 between Aberuthven and Auchterarder, on Monday.

The work will be carried out in two phases with a break to avoid the busy Easter weekend.

The traffic management for the project will begin with four days of lane closures.

This will be followed with a contra-flow system, for around nine days, which will allow one lane of traffic in each direction.

Right turns from the Aberuthven junction onto the A9 southbound will be banned during the works period, however, road users travelling south on the A9 will still be able to turn right into Aberuthven.

All right turns will be banned at the Whitemoss Road junction and the Auchterarder Sewage Treatment Works access road during the construction period. Local diversion routes will be in signed accordingly.

Following the Easter break, work will recommence on April 8 for approximately nine days to complete the works using similar traffic management arrangements to the first phase.

A temporary speed limit of 50mph will be in place throughout the works. Furthermore, a temporary speed limit of 30mph will be in place at the crossovers at each end of the contra-flow system and over the Aberuthven junction. These speed limits are in the interests of the safety of the travelling public and the workforce.

These essential road works are part of Transport Scotland’s on-going investment in the trunk road network and will involve the use of a “crack and seat” system which is an innovative sustainable technique that makes better use of existing layers within the road.

This minimises the need for new material to be quarried, produced and transported to site.
