New lift for Glenshee Ski Centre after bumper season

MANAGEMENT at Glenshee Ski Centre yesterday revealed plans for a new chairlift after their “best season in 10 years”.

Snowsports enthusiasts headed for the Perthshire hills for the final time at the weekend, when Sunday marked the end of the 2009/10 campaign.

Near-perfect conditions since well before the festive period led to thousands of skiers, snowboarders and sledgers hitting the slopes on a regular basis.

Now the money raised, in what is widely regarded as the busiest season since 2001, is being re-invested into the centre’s first major improvements since an ownership takeover in 2004.

Glenshee director Stewart Davidson said: “With the season having been so good, it gives us a bit of money to re-invest.

“It’s the first time we’ve really had the money to spend.”

The new lift will run up to the current Cairnwell chairlift, which was set up in 1962.

Glenshee already boasts the largest ski lift system in the UK, with 21 lifts and tows spread over three valleys and four mountains.
