PERTHSHIRE Abandoned Dogs Society’s annual charity shop opened in Perth yesterday – and the charity is hoping for strong support for its major fundraiser.
The charity’s chairman Alison Kennedy said PADS has experienced a larger than usual influx of homeless animals.
“We are certainly a lot busier at the kennels than we were at the same time last year,” she said yesterday. “At one point recently we were completely full.
“We think this is a result of the recession, unemployment and the fear of unemployment.
“When people are stretched financially they often decide to give up the family pet, which is a great tragedy.
“It costs us on average £6000 to £8000 a month to run our kennels so we need all the help we can get.”
The doors at 61-63 South Street have been open in recent days to allow residents to donate goods for the month-long venture.
The shop will be open from 10am-4pm every day throughout May, except Sundays.
