Junior Ryder Cup boosts local golf

LOCAL school kids will be getting in the swing thanks to a £5000 donation of golf equipment from the Junior Ryder Cup European Development Trust.

The presentation was made at this week’s Junior Ryder Cup at Gleneagles to help develop the national junior golf programme, clubgolf, with 1200 youngsters from local schools being introduced to the game.

The Junior Ryder Cup was showcasing top young golfing talent in Europe and the United States and provided an opportunity to celebrate the progress being made at grassroots level in Scotland as a result of the country winning the bid to host The 2014 Ryder Cup.

The equipment will ensure that a new generation of Perth and Kinross children are introduced to golf.

“Giving this clubgolf equipment to distribute across local schools is a great way of introducing children to the game,” said Sandy Jones, Ryder Cup European Board Member and chief executive of PGA Great Britain and Ireland.

“This equipment will go a long way and there will be a lot of children introduced to golf through this commitment.”

Clubgolf project manager Torquil McInroy: “We are grateful to the Junior Ryder Cup European Development Trust for their donation which will help Perth and Kinross schools roll out clubgolf locally.
