A PERTH detective has started attending community council meetings to brief attendees.
Perth CID Det Con Jim Thomson, one of the lead officers investigating a recent spate of high-profile jewellery thefts from homes across Perthshire, is conducting the briefings.
On Wednesday night he spoke at a Bridgend, Gannochy and Kinnoull Community Council meeting at Perth’s Royal George Hotel, providing an overview and crime prevention advice.
Police are investigating several break-ins, believed to be the work of the same gang, where expensive trinkets have been stolen from Big County properties over the past two months.
Recent victims included occupants of two homes in Comely Bank in Gannochy and another house on Glebe Terrace at Kinnoull Hill.
A Tayside Police spokesman said officers believed the crooks were from outside the area and the chances of recovering items were slim.
“When items like these are stolen by local offenders, then yes, there is a fair chance that we might recover them,” he said.
“But when we get hit by crooks who are visiting, it’s likely that the items will be punted elsewhere.”
DC Thomson will be briefing members of Blackford Community Council at a meeting in the Moray Institute, on Tuesday at 7.30pm .
