‘Stop The Quarry’ group welcome support

ALMOST 100 objections have been lodged against plans for sand and gravel quarrying at a popular visitor spot in the Ochils.

Last month Cemex UK Operations submitted a planning application to Perth and Kinross Council for quarrying at Glen Quey until 2035, and a separate bid for a road from the A823 to the site.

‘Stop The Quarry’ campaign group spokesman Michael Best told the PA: “Close to 100 objections have been filed against the quarry application and in excess of 50 to the related haul road, demonstrating the depth of feeling in the community.

“Objectors include five community councils – Auchterarder and District, Dollar, Muckhart, Fossoway and Alva.

“A sixth community council, Tillicoultry, also objected but did so after the deadline.

“We recognise the need for a supply of aggregates but alternative sites should be used where the operation would not destroy something that cannot be replaced."

The council’s target date for determining the application is April 19.
