Politicians welcome Aviva profit increase

POLITICIANS have praised major Fair City employer Aviva for turning over an impressive profit during 2010.

The company announced a 26 per cent increase in operating profit to £2.55 billion.

And Perth MSP Roseanna Cunningham and MP for Perth and North Perthshire Pete Wishart declared their delight at the result.

Ms Cunningham said: “I am really pleased to learn that Aviva have announced such encouraging results across both their life and general insurance businesses.

“Aviva is a tremendously important part of the Perthshire economy, both because of the number of local jobs it provides and because of the range of jobs it provides.”

Mr Wishart added: “Aviva’s continued good performance is great news for my constituents who work for the company and for Perthshire as a whole.

“It is great to see a business with such strong local links doing so well in these difficult times, particularly within the financial sector.”

Aviva employ 45,000 staff worldwide to serve their massive customer base of 53.4 million people.
