Fife teenager dies after M90 crash

A FIFE teenager was killed after a car he was a passenger in repeatedly rolled over on the M90 near the Friarton Bridge.

Ricky Brown (18) from Newburgh, died on Friday night at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

He was in a Ford Focus ST170 when the vehicle flipped over several times at junction 10 Craigend shortly after midnight on Thursday into Friday.

The driver, Jamie Fleming (20), also from Newburgh, was treated for a minor injury.

Police said no other vehicle was involved.

Tayside firefighters had to use hydraulic equipment to cut the pair free.

Ricky was treated by ambulance and trauma team staff at the scene and taken by ambulance to Ninewells, where he was put on life support in the intensive care unit.

His family were at his bedside when he died. Ricky’s death was confirmed by Tayside Police on Sunday.

Sergeant Alan Pettigrew, of the road policing unit at Perth’s Western Division, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the untimely death of a young man.

“Our thoughts are with Ricky’s family at this very difficult time as they endeavour to take in what has happened. We are carrying out extensive inquiries into this accident in order to explain what has occurred.

“To that end I would appeal for anyone who may have information about the circumstances to contact us as a matter of priority.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the distinctive grey Ford Focus ST170 car travelling to Perth around midnight on Thursday night / Friday morning.”
