Sneak thief nabs rings while owners home

A THIEF stole gold rings valued at £3500 from under their owners’ noses in Auchterarder.

Although the couple, retirees in their late 60s, were home at the time of the crime and went to investigate after hearing unusual noises, they did not discover the theft until days later.

A Tayside Police spokesman said the unknown intruder was believed to have entered the Glenorchil View house about 4pm on Friday, June 24.

“They didn’t find anything when they had a look around and it wasn’t until some time later they discovered that the rings were gone,” he said.

“They live on a quiet residential street, so we’re appealing to any neighbours who may have seen someone acting suspiciously at the time.”

He said the five gold rings were collectively valued at £3500.

Police are also appealing for any information about a break-in at Cargill Place in Perth’s Letham, which took place some time between 6pm last Tuesday and 9.15am on Wednesday.

After forcing entry, the crook nabbed a Nintendo Wii, a laptop computer and a small quantity of cash.
