VOCAL Stop the Incinerator campaigners launched a final push on Perth’s High Street yesterday.
Group ringleader, Councillor Peter Barrett, said more than 600 locals had signed a petition and more than double that number had signed letters of objection submitted to Perth and Kinross Council (PKC).
He said the overwhelming public response was a transparent indication that the controversial project could not be permitted to go ahead.
“Four weeks ago I was concerned that people would be disillusioned with incinerator fatigue,” he said.
“I thought Grundon were intending to wear Perth people down in the hope that their plans wouldn’t raise the same level of objections as last time.
“But I couldn’t have been more wrong – the spirit and determination of Perth has been demonstrated in the response to the threat that Grundon’s application presents to the future of our city and our area.
“I want to thank everyone in the team for their efforts and on a great achievement.”
Yesterday, shoppers on the High Street were invited to get involved in a final push and to add their names to the 1500 letters of objection and help reach the goal of 2000 objections by the consultation deadline.
Cllr Barrett said he wanted to make one last appeal to the public to make their feelings apparent to PKC while the clock was ticking down to last night’s deadline at midnight.
