Sun shine on Braco Show

IT WAS a bright and sunny day at Lodge Park for this year’s Braco Show.

Despite mixed weather leading up to the event, the sun shone on Saturday, attracting large crowds to the agricultural show.

And Strathearn competitors fared well, with many prizes going to local entrants, including Crieff’s Jim McLaren, Perth and Kinross Councillor for Strathallan Murray Lyle for their cattle and Mary McCall Smith for her sheep.

In the main ring, the judging of the cattle and heavy horses took place, as well as a full programme of entertainment from Crieff High School Pipe Band to Irish Dancing to falconry displays.

The horse ring showcased the best local and national horses and ponies.

Elsewhere in the show, the industrial tent was a chance to show some creative flare and the Strathearn JAC, CHAS, dog groomer sand other stands, as well as funfair attractions, provided something for everyone.

Speaking afterwards, Strathallan ward councillor Tom Gray said: “What a difference a day makes!

“All outdoor community events need the weather to play its best hand to bring just reward for the dedicated efforts of organisers and participants. It would seem Chairman Jim Moir spent a long time on his knees last Sunday as his final wish for Braco Show brought perfect conditions.

“It really is one of these events where its compact and couthie nature draws faces old and new from near and far.

“Blessed with a fine day, a large gathering relaxed and enjoyed the wide variety of activities and the long and varied programme of events.

“Perhaps Chairman Jim would apply his magic for the final week of Comrie Fortnight, Dunning Duck Race and Crieff Games to let this summer go out on a high note after a long and dreich start endured by the communities of Strathearn.”
