A MOTORIST had a lucky escape after his Perth-bound car veered off the A9 near Aberuthven yesterday morning.
The vehicle, a Vauxhall Zafira, is understood to have left a raised carriageway around 7am and rolled in a field before coming to a stop on one side.
But the 32-year-old motorist, the vehicle’s only occupant, did not sustain serious injury.
A commuter who passed the scene at 8.15am told the PA that the car was a total wreck.
“It was one of these big people movers and looked as if it had launched off the carriageway and rolled a couple of times – every single window was smashed,” he said.
“I thought whoever was driving must have been really banged up as the car was in a real state.
“When I passed by there was a police four-wheel-drive parked on the hard shoulder, probably waiting for a recovery vehicle.”
A Tayside Road Policing spokesman confirmed officers were investigating the single-vehicle incident that took place not far from the Aberuthven junction just after 7am.
He said police and paramedics had attended the scene after a passerby had raised the alarm at 7.11am, with the driver subsequently transferred to Perth Royal Infirmary via ambulance.
“The driver is being checked over at PRI but it looks as if he did not sustain any serious injuries – he had a lucky escape,” he said.
“It’s safe to assume he was wearing a seat belt as if he hadn’t then he would have been in bad shape.
“The car has already been recovered by a local garage and an investigation is underway.”
