Police probe teen stabbing victim

POLICE yesterday were probing a 19-year-old male victim about an alleged stabbing in Perth.

The unemployed Perth city centre resident was discharged from Ninewells Hospital last Sunday night following treatment for apparent stab wounds to his stomach area.

But what exactly happened – and where and when by who – are questions investigators were still trying to answer yesterday, with CID questioning the seemingly tight-lipped teenager.

Around 6.50pm on Sunday, a call about an incident near County Place to Tayside Police resulted in eight units being dispatched to the area.

Officers had been advised that a 19-year-old male had sustained stomach injuries and was presumably the victim of a blade attack by unknown perpetrators.

Although the street was not closed to traffic or pedestrians, passersby later told the PA they noticed a sizeable police presence as officers combed the area looking for suspects.

During the two hour probe, officers entered the Robert Burns Lounge where it is understood they spoke to clientele and staff.

Yesterday a Tayside Police spokesman confirmed that CID members were speaking to the victim and trying to ascertain circumstances and events of Sunday night.

“Presumably there was a weapon involved but that is still unconfirmed as nothing has been recovered,” he said.

“The incident didn’t take place in the (Robert Burns), we believe it was near there, either on the street or in a premises.’’
