A BIG County businessman yesterday revealed a whopping £50,000 was raised for local charities at his Balvaird Fun Day.
And John McGregor paid tribute to the generosity of the public and local businesses across Tayside and Fife who rallied to the cause, based at the site nine miles south of Perth.
The charities being boosted by the remarkable fundraising effort, which was topped up by a dance and auction at his Glen Farg farm, are Help For Heroes, Caring for Kids and the Tayside Dermatological Skin Cancer Research Fund.
The August event lured a huge crowd to Balvaird, with the focal point being a display of vintage cars and contemporary super cars with a combined value in excess of £3 million.
Mr McGregor, of Binn Skips, said: “The sum raised has exceeded the wildest dreams of my son Alan and I.
“We were keen to generate money for these three charities but it was very much a team effort, with a huge amount of work put in by a determined committee of volunteers.
“Business throughout the area were quick to support the fundraising venture and we are especially grateful to everyone who backed the event in the current economic climate.”
