Turleum Twirlstars seek new recruits

TOP baton twirling club the Turleum Twirlstars is looking for new recruits.

The Strathearn group is run by mother and daughter team Morag and Sarah Stobbie.

Morag said: “Turleum Twirlstars began in 1999 in St Michael’s hall and over the years Sarah has trained many girls and boys from the Crieff and Comrie area.

“They have performed at fetes, gala days, fun days and at the switching on of Christmas lights in the local area and beyond, including taking part in Edinburgh Festival Parades in Princes Street. Many of the girls who are in the team today, have been there from a young age including two who have been there from the beginning.

“Baton twirling is an excellent way of keeping fit, it involves dance and gymnastics as well as baton twirling and is good for hand/eye co-ordination.

“Over the years the girls have achieved a lot of success in competition both local, national and international levels.

“We fundraise to keep the sport affordable to all and have recently managed to raise enough for new tracksuits and team uniforms.

“However, with the older team members now moving on to further education away from the local area, we now find that we are struggling to keep the team going as the numbers have fallen to their lowest level ever.”

The team meets in Strathearn Community Campus on a Friday evening at 6pm, the beginners and younger girls finish at 7pm and the more experienced at 8pm.

If you are interested in baton twirling come along any Friday night at 6pm, the first night is free and thereafter it is £2.50 per class. Girls and boys are welcome from four years-old upwards.
