THE 1st Battalion 42nd Highland Regiment of Foot 1815 (The Black Watch) will make a welcome return to the renamed Scottish Game Fair in the grounds of Scone Palace, Perthshire from Friday to Sunday, July 4-6.
The group will be giving demonstrations of musketry and drill in the fair's main ring, as well as living authentically on site for the duration of the event – and probably hoping to persuade potential visitors to the Fair to take the King's shilling.
Although the group is based in England, the Black Watch proper has its regimental museum at Balhousie Castle, Perth, and The Scottish Game Fair Director, Garry Barnett, is a former Colonel of the Regiment.
The re-enactment group aim to recreate the Black Watch as it would have been at the time of the Battle of Waterloo and Garry said: “They put on a colourful show anyone with an interest in the Black Watch will be fascinated to see.”
With more than 300 trade stands, the Fair attracts more that 30,000 visitors. Log on to www.scottishgamefair.com
