Attacker is sent to jail

A SCONE man who attacked the licensee of a Perth city centre pub has been jailed for six months at the Sheriff Court.

Thirty-two-year-old Mark Thomson, of Birch Row, was also barred from the Auld Hoose for two years.

He was told by Sheriff Lindsay Foulis that if he even “put his head round the door” he would be committing an offence.

He earlier admitted punching Mark O’Callaghan on the face to his injury in the South Street bar on October 24.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said that the incident took place about 11.30pm.

He had previously been barred but still went into the bar. He was told he wasn’t welcome and to leave. There was some discussion and the accused denied he had been barred earlier.

He then asked Mr O’Callaghan if he would be barred if he did assault him – and then struck him on the face.

Solicitor Steve Lafferty said that the accused had “no idea” Mr O’Callaghan was the licensee of the Auld Hoose.

The Sheriff noted that he had a number of previous convictions for violence and the pub incident had taken place while he was on bail.
