Apology for Perth roads chaos

COMMUTERS experienced a nightmare journey to Perth yesterday morning after road works ran over schedule.

Rush hour motorists on the M90 suffered delays of up to TWO HOURS after unexpected surface repairs forced the closure of the Friarton Bridge’s north-bound carriageway, causing traffic to back up in a queue stretching beyond Bridge of Earn, five miles south of the Fair City.

A spokeswoman for road maintenance contractors Bear Scotland apologised for the closure, which led to lengthy tailbacks at the Craigend junction and along all the main routes into Perth.

The works are now due to be completed overnight tonight and tomorrow, with Friarton Bridge remaining closed north-bound between 8.30pm and 6.30am.

Traffic will be diverted through Perth city centre during off-peak periods, with a single north-bound lane operating over the bridge during daytime hours.
