Students go outdoors for learning

TEN Perth College students have been enrolled onto Perth and Kinross Council’s Future Coaches scheme, allowing them to gain experience in outdoor pursuits.

The Outdoor adventure leadership students will benefit from the partnership between the college and council as their First Aid course and UKCC Level 1 coach in canoeing will be funded by the Gannochy Trust and organised through the PKC Sports Development Team. The students will repay this investment by offering voluntary leadership in outdoor pursuits.

Lee Sutherland, a student on the courses, explained: “As a mature student looking for a career change, my aim is to gain as much experience as possible.

“The courses provided by the scheme are the perfect foundation towards becoming an outdoor coach or leader.

“The subsequent voluntary work with the council has also provided an invaluable insight into my future career.”
