THE South Perth Communities Partnership joined forces with the P5 class of Moncreiffe Primary School to embark upon a project to identify what it means to live in their area of the City.
The partnership felt that people who lived in the communities of Craigie, Moncreiffe, Friarton and South Inch no longer identified with where they lived and commissioned research using photography and co-ordinated by Moncreiffe’s P5 pupils and staff to find out what people felt about where they lived.
The pupils discussed in class what community meant, which communities they were members of, and what were the important things to them about living in the South Perth City.
They learned to use digital cameras, identified some groups which were representative of the community and arranged to visit them.
At these visits the pupils showed other people how to use the cameras and asked them to take their own images. The class them downloaded the photographs and documented why people had taken them, and then set up an exhibition.
