Swinney praises school’s Eco efforts

JOHN Swinney visited the Strone of Cally Primary School this week to congratulate pupils and Headteacher, Yvonne Mackenzie, for achieving an Eco Schools green flag.

Mr Swinney said: “To gain an Eco Schools Green Flag a school has to develop projects to improve its ‘green’ credentials. Pupils work in areas such as energy efficiency, reduction in water consumption, waste and litter reduction and how to encourage biodviersity. Schools can achieve Bronze, Silver or Green Flag Awards.

““This is great news, as part of my Ministerial portfolio, I take a great interest in the environment and climate change. It is fantastic to see North Tayside’s pupils taking a lead.

“During my visit, I also heard that the Strone of Cally pupils were recently invited to Scottish Hydro Electric's visitor centre in Pitlochry to find out more about electricity generation, efficiency and biodiversity.

“I would like to congratulate all those schools who currently have Eco Schools status.”
