Perth High pupils seize school prize
TEAMS from schools throughout Perth and Kinross were at the George Duncan Arena in Perth on Sunday to take part in the first S1 schools’ team athletic competition.
First year pupils competed in run, jump and throw events, with all points going towards a team prize of sports vouchers for the top school.
Some great competition ended with a team from Perth High School winning the overall event, just beating Crieff High in a closely-contested match.
In addition to the team prize, the best overall boys’ score was achieved by Fergus Henderson, from Perth High School.
Best girls’ score for the three events came from Lorna McLarty, from Crieff High School.
In the individual events, special mention should go to the three athletes with the best result on the day.
In the timed 400m run, Lorna McLarty, Crieff, won in a time of 1.06.57. In the shot putt, the best throw came from Amber Stewart, Perth Grammar, with a putt of 6.09m.
In the standing long jump event, the best jump of the day went to Taylor Ferguson, Perth High, with a leap of 2.02m
The event organisers, local sports charity PHYSICAL, would like to thank AVIVA for their generous support of the event and Perth Strathtay Harriers.
