FANS of traditional Scottish dancing are in for a treat next week as the Big National Ceilidh comes to Breadalbane Academy.

Pupils from the school’s own ceilidh band, Knots and Crosses, will be hoping to fill the academy’s temporary school hall to the rafters from 7.30pm on Friday (October 24) as the dance forms the local leg of a worldwide fundraising effort for WaterAid.

It will be the first opportunity many parents will have had to see the school’s decant accommodation – where the staff and pupil’s will operate while the school’s historic buildings are replaced by the new Breadalbane Community Campus over the next two years.

The ceilidh is one of 60 taking place across the world as part of the Big National Ceilidh.

The ambitious plan was the brainchild of Northumbrian pair David and Joey Oliver, both folk music enthusiasts, and found its way to Breadalbane Academy via word of mouth from a parent.

Peter Butter, Geography teacher at Breadalbane, said: “It’s strange that out of all these ceilidhs that are taking place all over the world, the only Scottish one is happening in Aberfeldy.

“But it will be a good chance for people to see the new buildings, which look really good, and the band that are playing are really very talented.”

Tickets for the ceilidh cost £5 and can be purchased from either the school’s office or by telephoning Peter Butter on 07799640149.
