Top marks for pre-school

PERTH and Kinross Council has welcomed the publication of a Care Commission inspection report for Crieff Road Pre-School Centre in Perth, which gave the nursery school top marks for all areas inspected.

Inspectors visited the nursery in September 2008 and assessed the quality of five key areas: care and support, the centre’s environment, quality and information, staffing, and management and leadership.

Crieff Road Pre-School Centre was rated as ‘Excellent’ across all five areas, achieving the highest possible marks under the Commission’s new grading system, which examines between three and five separate areas of care provision.

The nursery, which provides part-time, full-time and wraparound care for pre-school children is the first establishment of its kind in Perth and Kinross to achieve the highest rating.

Lifelong learning vice convener, Councillor George Hayton, said: “This is fantastic news for Crieff Road Pre-School Centre and my congratulations go to everyone at the nursery – staff, pupils and parents.”

Lorne Findlay, the Care Commission’s regional manager for central east, said: “This service has shown the kind of quality that every care service should aspire to.

“ Congratulations are due to everyone involved, including the managers, staff, carers, parents and the children.”
