ONE lucky primary school pupil will get the chance to light the bonfire at the November 5 fireworks extravaganza on the South Inch tomorrow evening.
A poster competition has been running in local schools and the winning pupil will help Councillor Callum Gillies, chairman of the Perth Common Good Fund, get the evening’s activities started.
The event is again being organised by Perth Strathearn 200 Round Table.
Vice-convener Garry Shaw said: “The bonfire will be lit at 7pm.
“The fireworks display, which will begin around 7.30pm, is being provided by Coupar Angus-based Blast Design, winners of the Scottish Fireworks Championships.
“I would also urge people attending to look out for the Round Table volunteers who will be shaking fund-raising buckets on the night, with local charities the benefactors.”
The Round Table have also stepped in to save Bonfire Night for Blairgowrie families by offering subsidised buses to the Perth display.
The gesture comes after Blairgowrie’s own event was ended by red tape after more than 30 years.
Buses, provided by Smith and Sons, will leave the Wellmeadow no earlier than 6pm on the night, and leave Perth for the return journey at 8.30pm.
Each return trip will cost £2 for adults and £1 for children. Call Smith and Sons on 01828-626262.
