St Columba's High School praised

ST Columba’s High School in Perth has been praised for a range of strengths and examples of good education practice in an HMIE inspection report published on November 11.

Inspectors visited the secondary school in September and found a number of significant strengths in the school’s work: The headteacher’s success in leading school improvement; the school’s positive and stimulating atmosphere which encouraged learning; staff’s skilful introduction of creative new ways to help young people with difficulties in learning; strong teamwork within the school and with community partners; the strong Roman Catholic ethos and values of the school; and well-behaved and courteous pupils.

Inspectors found that most pupils at St Columba’s were learning and achieving well and parents felt welcome in the school and generally felt they were kept well informed about their children’s progress.

Overall, St Columba’s was considered to have a clear view of what was required to help its continued improvement.

Lifelong Learning Convener Councillor Liz Grant said: “This is a very positive report and reflects well on the commitment of staff, young people and parents.”
