Poppy tribute by young footballers

PERTH High School youngsters have raised more than £1400 for Children in Need.

But they have also decided to make a substantial donation to the Poppy Appeal.

The boys’ senior football team played out a competitive game with staff, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

And they decided to sport poppies on their strips in honour of war casualties.

Fiona Keatings, depute head teacher, explained: “Senior pupils appreciated that those who fought and died were lads around their own age.

“They made the connection and without prompting they decided to wear their poppies in the match as a mark of respect.”

The game itself was hard-fought, with one member of staff suffering a knee injury, a pupil damaging a shin and a spectator fainting on the touchline!

The Children in Need tally was boosted by a non-uniformed day and Pudsey bakery.
