METHVEN Primary School has received a positive report from HM Inspectors for its well-behaved, polite and eager-to-learn pupils.
Their achievements in mathematics, arts and PE were also praised in a report published this week.
Inspectors also highlighted the “exemplary” work of the visiting teacher of art and the involvement of all children within school committees as examples of good practice.
Overall, children are making good progress in talking, listening and writing, and very good progress in mathematics.
But although staff had helped improve their attainment in reading and maths in the last few years, pupils still need to develop their presentation of written work and spelling skills.
HM Inspectors also noted that children’s independent learning skills needed to be further developed along with more challenge in classroom tasks and activities.
With the support of the headteacher, HM Inspectors feel that staff are contributing very well to the work of the school.
The report concludes that Methven Primary School is capable of making further improvement with the continued support of the council.
The school and the council will be working together to enable all children to become independent learners and to continue to improve children’s learning and the provision to meet their learning needs.
HMIE’s confidence in the school’s ability to improve means that no more visits will be made in connection with the inspection.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Liz Grant said: “It is positive to note that HMIE feel that Methven Primary School is in a good position to make further improvement in its education provision. We will be working with the school to ensure the areas for improvement are taken forward and will keep parents informed on the progress being made.”
